Why You Feel Empty Even When You're Doing Things You Love

Why You Feel Empty Even When You're Doing Things You Love

July 07, 20262 min read

I had to share something with you that has been sitting on my chest for weeks now.

I have been blocking pink space on my calendar. Real pink space. The kind I teach. The kind I built a whole philosophy around. And I have still been feeling depleted.

Not from the hard things. From the good things. From the work I love. From the women I love. From the conversations and the coaching and the building and the creating.

And I sat with this for a long time, beautiful soul, before I let myself say the thing out loud.

Sometimes you can fill your calendar with everything you love and still be over-giving.

Nobody tells you that. The wellness world tells you to find your passion and pour into it. The hustle world tells you to monetize what you love. The healing world tells you that if it lights you up, it can't be depleting you.

But here is what I am learning in 2026. Even the things that feed you can drain you when there is too much of them. Even the work you were born to do can leave you empty if you have not also left space to receive.

My word this year is RECEIVE. And what I am noticing is that the belief has not fully caught up to the behaviour shift yet. I am doing the work. I am leaving the space. I am saying the no's. And there is still a younger version of me inside who believes she is more lovable when she is useful.

If you are reading this and your shoulders just dropped, I see you.

You are not broken. You are not bad at self-care. You have not failed at the program or the system or the morning routine. You are a woman who has spent a long time pouring into other people, and your nervous system is asking you to come home now.

Here is a question I have been asking myself all month. Maybe you want to try it too.

Where am I depleted, even by things I love?

Write it down. Not to fix anything today. Just to know.

If you read that and felt seen, I want you in our membership. YMTYS (You're More Than Your Stuff) is the community where we practice receiving in real time, alongside other women who are learning the same thing. Selena and I host live calls every week. There is no perfect way to show up. There is just you, showing up. Come find us.

P.S. Reply and tell me one thing you love that has been quietly draining you. I read every single one.

I'm So Grateful You're Here

I help you reclaim your home from clutter, so you can find ease and live your life with joy. I am your Professional Decluttering Life Coach, Wellness Facilitator, and Trifecta Alchemy Practitioner.

I was where you are, I felt completely overwhelmed by clutter. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get ahead, and the piles kept growing along with my frustration.

  • Why does decluttering seem easy for everyone but me?

  • Why do I feel embarrassed to invite people over?

  • Why am I so exhausted and unworthy?

  • When will it finally get easier?

It wasn’t until I discovered the power of self-care and simple tools that everything changed. By prioritizing myself, I found the energy to create a peaceful, organized home.

Welcome to my little corner of serenity!

Testimonials

''I highly recommend her for your

next organizational project!''

''Everyone needs a non-judgmental “best friend” who will work shoulder-to-shoulder with you as you work toward your organizational goals. Julie is that best friend. In the kindest and gentlest way, Julie helped me work through a large project in smaller, more manageable tasks. She kept me focused on the task at hand, dealing with both the physical and emotional attachment I had with some of the items I had held on to for much too long. Whether it’s a short-term or long-term project, Julie can help you get to the finish line! I highly recommend her for your next organizational project!'' - Kathy

''She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life''

''My experience with Julie was incredible. She is a kind, calming, safe space. I enjoyed the exercise we did together. It really help me view my emotions from a different perspective. She knew what questions to ask and how to help me analyze my feelings. She’s educated in what she does. I would love to do it again with her!! She opened my mind to new tools and strategies into my daily life. ❤️❤️❤️''- Kate

''It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control''

''The exercise was quick and effective. It quickly gave me perspective on how I allow my emotions take control. It’s interesting how I had immediate answers to the questions I was asked. I can only speak for myself, but this changed my thoughts for that day and I was present. I did continue to think about the exercise the following day and tried to remember how I felt when I answered the questions. I believe it was effective. I plan on using that exercise or at least remember what I answered when I feel like I’m spiraling or overthinking my thoughts'' - Maritza

''I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.''

''Being in this community with Julie’s guidance has helped me to understand about Self Care and Self Love, two concepts that were very foreign to me. I get it know, and I’m learning more all the time about how the way I feel about myself and take care of myself is related to so many aspects of my life, including my relationships and decluttering my home.'' - Laura
